Mannn. I thought I could hold it in, too.
During my drawing class, we had midterm portfolio check-ups. And as a part of our grade we have to keep up a sketchbook journal type thing. My taste for drawing isn’t as sweet compared to photo and painting, so i definitely skimped on the drawing portion. But with the x-amount of drawings I actually did, a good chunk of them were inspired by my mom. It was very subtle clue, like with the pink on the left side of the chest, but you can clearly tell that the sketches had some sort of meaning. Anywho, my professor eventually caught on and asked. Then came the “how is she doing?” I thought to myself, “Aww, hayle.. here it comes.” And then the focus quickly shifted from my art to my mom. She was actually his former student when I was a senior in high school. So it definitely hit him hard when I told him what happened. Both of us got all teary-eyed. I thought it was a little awkward at first because students would walk by, wondering what the heck happened, while looking what my drawings to see what the fuss was all about.
My professor said a lot of amazing things about her. Out of all the hundreds of students, he remembered. She stuck out. I want to be like that. I want to be like her and continue her dream of taking art into a whole new perspective. And so I shall, this coming fall at Sac State, double majoring in studio art and photo.
